dreamirc exists to answer one question we kept coming back to: why do some spaces give you a feeling of calm, warmth and room to breathe — while others, sometimes far more expensive, just don't?
We're not a catalogue of décor and we're not a shopping feed. We're an editorial magazine that explains why things work. Why a tidy room can still feel tense. Why one lamp changes everything. Why a tiny rented flat can feel more like home than a house twice its size.
Our readers are homeowners and renters alike, mostly in the UK, US, Canada and Australia, who care less about chasing trends and more about how a space actually feels to live in. Whether you own your walls or you're not even allowed to drill them, our promise is the same: practical, honest, beautiful ideas for turning any space into somewhere you want to be.
What we believe
A home is a feeling, not a budget. The warmth of a room comes from light, texture, rhythm and care — not from how much you spent or how on-trend it looks. Good design should be explainable, reversible where it needs to be, and kind to the way real people actually live.

dreamirc is made by a small editorial team with a single, consistent voice. We write under our own names where a piece is personal, and under a shared The dreamirc Editors byline for collaborative, fact-checked guides. We don't invent personas or borrow credentials we don't have — what you read here is written by the people below.
Eleanor Hartley
Eleanor has spent more than fifteen years writing about homes and interiors, first for regional lifestyle pages and later as a freelance features editor. She started dreamirc after years of renting flats she wasn't allowed to paint — and discovering that the rooms she loved most were rarely the most expensive. She sets the editorial direction and edits every long read.
Maya Okonkwo
Maya has lived in nine rented homes across three cities and has the storage solutions to prove it. She writes about making temporary spaces feel permanent, reversible decor, and getting the most out of a small footprint. She tests every renter-friendly tip in her own one-bedroom flat before it goes near a draft.
James Whitcombe
James trained in lighting design before moving into writing, and he still can't walk into a room without quietly assessing its lamps. He covers colour, layered lighting and biophilic design, translating the technical side into language you can actually use when you're standing in the paint aisle.
Sofia Brennan
Sofia writes about the habits and seasonal rhythms that make a home feel cared for. A committed list-maker and recovering over-decorator, she's drawn to the small rituals — a morning corner, a Sunday reset — that change how a space feels without changing what's in it. She also runs our first-person experiments.
